GMRSPL - March 2024 Message from the Guelph Men’s Recreational Slo-Pitch League President
Gentlemen, we are ramping up for another great ball season
in 2024. The following is information
for both returning and new players.
Registration will be open from Saturday March 2nd
until Friday March 29th.
Again, this year it is a requirement that all players
be registered with PlaySlopitch.com.
This year both Slo-Pitch Ontario and Slo-Pitch National are merging
their operations under PlaySlopitch.com and are currently in the final stages of preparing to support
the 2024 season for players and teams across the province. As a result, PlaySlopitch.com registration will open by
March 15th. In the interim we
will open our registration as players can provide either their SPO ID, if
known, or the email address that is, or will be, associated with their SPO/PlaySloPitch.com registration.
We will verify players PlaySlopitch.com registration prior to
forming the teams at the end of March. Therefore,
we do not need you to have your SP registration already completed
before you submit your GMRSP league registration but we need to be able to
associate these. Please include either
your SP id number from last year’s registration OR the email address
that will be associated to your SP account.
I want to share below additional information concerning
our plans for the season.

What the League Offers (New Player Info)
The following information is primarily targeted to
new players considering enrolling in the league or for veterans to share with
neighbours or friends who are considering joining.
The Guelph Men’s Recreational Slo-Pitch League was
formed in 1975 as a recreational slo-pitch league for players of all
abilities. The League is for men 33
years of age or older as December 31st of the current year.
Our league has 16 different teams playing either Thurs
or Tues evenings. You register to play on
a specific evening, and you will be placed on a team and notified in mid-April. There is an option to play on two separate
teams on two separate nights IF SPACE IS AVAILABLE at the close of
registration. The league does NOT accept
“team submissions” and is instead structured to try to balance fun, recreation,
and competitive play.

Highlights for the 2024 season
The season will include:
- Registration will be open Mar 2 -
29th
- March
3rd Storm game – League representatives will be at the Promotion
table at the 2pm Storm game – swing by to say Hi and put your name/email in for
a give-away draw.
- Registration is on a first come first
served basis with last season returning players registered by closing having priority
– so register early to avoid disappointment.
- As we hit capacity players will be
placed on a waiting list and may be placed on a team later if changes arise
- Players will be notified by their
Team Reps by April 14th as to the team that they are on
- We will have an opening banquet on
Friday, April 26th at the Guelph Italian Canadian Club
- Games will commence the week of May
6th (7th for Tues night and 9th for Thurs
night teams)
- Regular season play extends into
August followed by play offs extending into early September
- Closing banquet for players and
guest on Friday, September 27th at the Guelph Italian Canadian Club

Again, this season we have reached out to our local
community business partners concerning potential sponsorship. Many of these are past sponsors as well as
current and past league players who want to show their support.
Everyone should appreciate that this sponsorship
allows us to establish overall player fees at LESS than what it
costs to operate the league and our functions.
We will list the sponsors both on our shirts as well as on the league
website, Face Book and in out opening and closing dinner events. They all deserve our thanks and patronage.

Registration
Registration will be open March 2nd
thru to midnight Friday March 29th.
- Registration will ONLY
be available online. Manual or printed
registrations will not be accepted. Thanks to Omar Aboelela, our league Vice
President and Registrar for his efforts to establish a new registration form
this season. Please find the form at the

- Only online payments via PayPal or etransfer will
be accepted. As indicated above overall player
costs are LESS than the actual costs because of volunteer and sponsorship
support. The costs remain the same
as our 2023 season – where else do you get that value now-a-days.
The summary of costs are:
- Single
night registration - $185
- If
available second night registration (notified after end of March if positions
are available) - $65
- Closing
banquet guest ticket fee (player fees included in registration) - $50
- Requirement for ALL players to register with PlaySlopitch.com (formerly SloPitch Ontario https://playslopitch.com/) to have
personal and league insurance (cost per player is $16.95 payable to SP).
There will be an option to submit your name for
consideration to play on the alternate night.
If there are vacant positions at the close of registration players will
be contacted in the order that their registration was received online.
Please talk up the league with friends and family
