RCMSPL Update - April 15, 2021
Submitted By Jon Hebden on Thursday, April 15, 2021
Good day RCMSPL,

I want to provide you with an update for the 2021 season.

I would like to thank all teams for replying to my email regarding your intentions for the 2021 season.  Your response and commitment to the 2021 season allowed us to revise our divisional alignment in adherence with our current provincial guidelines and develop a suitable schedule (Which will be posted on the website soon with an anticipated May 30th start date).

We continue to take precautions to ensure the safety of our members and adhere to the Provincial Guidelines with an intent to be able to play this year.  This includes, but is not limited to, an online screening tool, social distancing precautions, varied start times and minimal late games to avoid exposure and cross over of teams on the diamonds.

We have obtained permission from the city to use the diamonds. That along with the commitment from our teams, schedule in place, and an online screening tool ready for use, has set us up nicely to commence our season. The final requirement we continue to wait on is the permission from the Province.

I have been asked when I think we will be allowed to play.  To answer that, I have to refer to the Provincial Guidelines, which state:

RED states:

Sports and recreational fitness facilities

  • Maintain 2 metres physical distancing at all times
  • Increase spacing between patrons to 3 metres in areas where there are weights or exercise equipment and in exercise and fitness classes
  • Capacity limits, where physical distancing can be maintained:
    • 10 people in indoor areas with weights and exercise machines
    • 10 people in all indoor classes or
    • 25 people in outdoor classes
    • No spectators permitted, however each person under 18 may be accompanied by one parent or guardian
  • Team sports must not be practiced or played except for training (no games or scrimmage)

ORANGE states:

Sports and recreational fitness facilities

  • Maintain 2 metres physical distancing, unless engaged in a sport
  • Increase spacing between patrons to 3 metres in areas where there are weights or exercise equipment and in exercise and fitness classes
  • Capacity limits, where physical distancing can be maintained:
    • Classes: 50 people indoors (10 per class) or 100 people (25 per class)
    • Areas with weights and exercise equipment: 50 people
    • No spectators permitted (except for one parent or guardian per child)
  • Active screening of patrons required (customers can use the online screening tool to help meet this requirement)

Our interpretation of this script suggests that we are NOT ALLOWED to play any games until we are in ORANGE (while still limited).  However, as a league we are prepped ready to go!

When we will move to ORANGE is anyone’s guess.   The RCMSPL has set a benchmark with the hope and intention to be able to play this year!

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Thanks,

Jon
