RCMSPL Update - March 27, 2021
Submitted By Jon Hebden on Saturday, March 27, 2021
Good day all,

I hope my email finds you and yours well during this difficult time in our lives.

I wanted to send a brief update to keep you as much “in the know” as we are.

The good news we are happy to share is that the City has confirmed with us their intention to open all sports fields in Guelph.  That combined with our current provincial “Covid Colour” state is encouraging and we are optimistic that the 2021 RCMSPL season can take place.  As such Brad, Brandi and I have initiated planning for the upcoming season.  Contracts have been signed with the City and with SPO and we have reached out to our UIC and Statistician to begin schedule planning and discuss Umpires for this season as if it was a regular year. While the wheels are moving in a forward motion, we do still need to wait for confirmation and direction from the Federal/Provincial/Municipal agencies, the Board of Health and SPO with respect to any new guidelines and/or requirements that will need to be considered for this season.

Despite word that sports fields will be open, Covid has taken quite a toll on operations over the past year and entering this season.  Your Executive is committed to working through the logistics of managing this season and doing so with agility in mind to best prepare us for any unexpected obstacles or curveballs that we may face immediately, or at any point during the season. It is important that we have a Plan B, C and D in place to best set us up for success.

Your Executive continue to drive our decision making with the health, wellness, and safety and of our members being our top priority.  We also remain committed to delivering the quality you have come to expect from the RCMSPL and ensure our league runs as smoothly and safely as possible.  To achieve success, it is imperative that we have the continued support and usual co-operation from each of you, fellow members of the RCMSPL.  It is incumbent upon all of us Members of the RCMSPL to continue to do everything in our power to help stop the spread of COVID-19 on our sports fields and within our communities.

Your RCMSPL Executive continue to monitor the severity and impact the pandemic is having on our community and consider those impacts as we work to determine if any changes can, or need, to be made to the structure, management and practices of our league.  The RCMSPL will always align our practices to the recommendations of our public health officials.

You can expect that new measures will be implemented, and schedules will be adjusted to facilitate these measures.

“Yeah Yeah Jon, but what does all this mean for me and my Team?”  Absolutely! Let’s get down to the information that you’ve been waiting for and care most about.  As we are already at the end or March and have yet to have ANY league meetings (2 of the 3 would have taken place by now), our wheels will be rolling forward much quicker than we’re used to. To continue our forward motion and strive to be on the fields in May, we have some important and time sensitive action items for each of you.

I am asking that each team representative send me an email by Friday, April 2nd and confirm if your Team is prepared to participate this year.  Within the email, please state your team name and contact information so I can verify our records are up to date and accurate for future communications.

Once we know what Teams will be participating, we will be able to consider Divisional alignment and have a schedule produced so that we are ready to play when we get the final “green light” to take the field.

I’ve reviewed the Provincial Guidelines, and it appears we may be restricted to 4 teams per division and a limited roster.  We will pass these details on to you as soon as we hammer them down, but our goal is to get out there and Play Ball!

Finally, we are still actively seeking Umpires so if you know of anyone that may be interested, please send them my way and I will connect them with Terry.

That’s all for now. If you have any questions, feel free to send them along.

Thanks,

Jon
